Genesis 1-2

Posted on January 1, 2015 by DD

There are numerous volumes written about what Genesis 1-2 says and what it means.  You could spend hours on end studying the different aspects and debates of Genesis 1-2.  This morning as I took a fresh look, in this fresh new year, I was encouraged by what God did in these chapters.

God created and made.  He is the creator and sustainer of all things.

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” – Revelation 4:11

God saw.   There is nothing that misses his attention. He visually assesses all things.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. – Psalm 139:11–12

God said.  God’s creative genius and power is as simple as speaking for Him.  Look at chapter 1 verse 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 17, 20, 24 how it says “And God said.”  Then notice how in chapter 1 verses 7, 9, 11, 15, 24, and 30 they all end with “And it was so.”  “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Gen 18:14

But the thing God did that brought me the most encouragement today is…

God said to them. v28

I found this very encouraging because the pinnacle of God’s creation is humankind and he made them with a different capacity than everything else that was made.  He made man with the unique feature of communicating with Him.  What a privilege we have to be able to hear what God says and then respond to Him in word and deed.

The Bible is God’s Word.  It is the primary way God speaks to his special portion of creation, mankind.  What an encouragement then to read the scriptures daily in this upcoming year and hear the voice of God.

These resources came to my mind quickly for further study.
